Disney World, Day 1

This post is a little over due, but better late than never, right?!So we got to Orlando on Sunday night, and Monday morning we got to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom with the whole family (Nana, Poppa, and the Larisons) before the park opened. We saw Mickey and his gang, plus all the princesses and other characters arrive on the train and when the park opened we headed straight for the Dumbo ride since it gets pretty crowded later in the day. Then the kids all rode Prince Charming’s Carousel and I took pictures. I got a good one of Paisley!

After that, we did Its a Small World – it was probably my favorite ride of the day… We hopped over to Mickey’s PhilharMargic and the kids LOVED it. I was surprised by how good it was and how much the kids liked it. We did Peter Pan’s Flight next, and then looked around a bit. We found Donald the Duck and the kids met him and got some pictures with him.

By then it was almost 12:00, so we headed back for the bus to the hotel and did lunch, took naps, and did some swimming. Around 6:00 we headed back to the park. It was a great way to do it with little one since we got a good rest and missed the hottest part of the day at the park.

Back at the Magic Kingdom, we walked up Main Street and got some family pictures in front of Cinderella’s Castle.

We rode the Mad Tea Party with the teacups a-spinning, of course! I took pictures from inside the teacup and got some great ones! Here is one of Paedyn Rose that I just love!

After that, we took some time to get our bearings and figure what to do next. I got a nice shot of everyone that I really like for some reason and did some editing on it in iPhoto just to mess around. The end result is kind of neat. I think I might frame it.

Next we headed over the Haunted Mansion, which Pressly LOVED – the other kids weren’t so hip on it, but it wasn’t scary… just a CREEPY as Pressly would put it.

We caught the Electric Parade and actually got pretty good seats for it along the parade route. This was the highlight of the day for the kids. The saw Mickey, Minnie, Cinderella, Snow White, and many other characters pass by in the parade. Pressly sat on my shoulders and Paedyn sat on Desirae’s shoulders. They both screamed constantly – “MICKEY!” “CINDERELLA!” “SNOW WHITE!”, etc….. It was pretty awesome I must admit.
Next we started a slow trek back towards the front of the park, if we hurried we could make the fireworks over the Castle. Well, that was a mistake. We got caught in a traffic jam and had nowhere to go. It was a nightmare. People were not very considerate of the fact that you were pushing 2 tiny kids in a rickshaw stroller, nor were they too eager to move along too quickly. We got stuck in the traffic behind all the trees, which blocked our view to the fireworks. Oh well. They looked like they would have been pretty great… I’d like to go back and see them from Main Street.
We finally got out of the park and in the giant queue for the tram back to the parking lot where our bus would be. It was late, the kids were tired, the parents were tired… it was a great first day.

Gory Details…

** WARNING – THESE PICTURES ARE NOT EASY TO LOOK AT **

Here is the video feed from the playground, graciously provided to us by the daycare. Pressly is wearing a little red sundress and you can see her in the top left. I cut the video to the exact moment, so it happens right away. Then I show it to you a few more times and in slow mo… its really hard to tell what actually happened. Looks like maybe she was leaning over the edge and her foot slipped, then her leg/foot went through the chain ladder, causing her to topple off balance. She turns backwards as she falls (I think) and then its all over… The staff at the daycare did do an excellent job of responding as soon as they noticed her issue and we are thankful for that. This all happened at 5:03pm and Desirae was on the phone with me by 5:05, so they got us in the loop quick…anyway — video time.

Okay. So here are the pictures of Pressly’s arm immediately after the incident at the daycare, and then in the car on the way to the ER… hope you have a strong stomach.

and then the x-rays once we got to the ER. Three (3) different views…

She finally got to cuddle up with Desirae and got to sleep – which was something they gave her some drugs for prior to straightening her arm out, except she just wouldn’t go to sleep; thus, she was awake when they did it, albeit a little dazed and confused. the next one she is sleeping sounding right before we left the ER. You can see her splint and temporary cast. We go to the Orthopedic Doc tomorrow morning to get more info on what the next several weeks hold for her.

She is doing great, though, and never complains about pain – just gets real crabby and sobby at times. Bless her heart, she has been such a trooper. She would tell you that the IV they put in her was the worse part, even though the nurse that did was awesome and quick to be tracking down her little hand while it fought her off with everything she had.It was by far the worse night I have had as a parent. You see you little girl’s arm twisted and cranked unnaturally and she cries out for you when she sees you. Your baby is in pain and you can’t do anything to help her except offer your hugs and kisses and reassurance. I know a bunch of parents out there that deal with this situation with great grace whose children have far worse than broken bones… My heart goes out you.

I’ll provide an update after we get back from the bone man tomorrow morning. Keep Pressly in your prayers that she will stay strong and not be discouraged by this injury. That she will have a speedy and full recovery. Keep Desirae in your prayers that she will endure watching her child in pain. And of course, keep me in your prayers that I will just keep my mouth shut when I inevitably start thinking that everyone is over-reacting.

On a side note – I’m not exactly sure to the legality of putting these pics/vids on the site; but this is really more for me in 20 years than it is for you today… I mean no ill will or any other harm to any party involved by making this post. My intent is to share our lives with the people we love that don’t live next door to us; the good, and the bad. I hope whoever actually reads this besides future me understands that.

Broken Arm!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Pressly fell from the playground
at daycare this afternoon (about 4.5 feet or so) and broke her left
arm. It looked pretty gruesome but was a good clean break for both
bones as far as ER could tell from the xrays. They set it (after a few
doses of drugs for Pressly — maybe Mom and Dad should have gotten
those instead!) and put her in a splint and temp cast. Tomorrow we
will schedule an appt with an Ortho. She was a real trooper and is
doing just fine tonight. Sleeping comfortably in our bed… I’ll have
more soon. Pictures and stuff. I even got a copy of the xrays!

For now, just know that she is doing okay!

Changes…

You might notice a few changes. I am playing around with the website… Should have all the header images and such up and customized soon. Actually even been thinking about just simply killing this site and using only posterous (www.posterous.com). Only I’d have to figure out there is how to link up to my Picasa site. Maybe I’ll figure it out. Later.
